Document Summary
Due to weathering, transported clastic grains are modified. It is easy to tell an ice-born sediment apart from others because of its rare, angular form. When sediment is transported by rivers, it becomes rounder, smaller, and better sorted. Although water is the primary mode of transportation for sediment, wind also contributes greatly. It is only the primary mode of transportation in dry and airy areas. Wind is very limited in the ways and extent to which it can change landscapes. Water is very important to chemical and physical weathering. These reactions are generally in conjunction with geochemical condition changes. Elements transfer from continent to sea through the water cycle. New minerals can precipitate and settle out when conditions are right. The main source of sediment in the ocean is is biologically precipitated minerals. Particular combinations of conditions during transport and deposition. Sedimentary sequence: distinct beds/strata with different properties stacked on top of each other.
