Document Summary
How the earth works lecture 1, earth dynamics. Most of what we used is extracted from the ground up. Snowball earth (ice covers the whole earth) Geocentric- earth is at center of universe and all objects revolve around it. What can make up solar system: moon, asteroid, comet (has ice) All matter and energy was once packed into a small point and exploded. Light waves look different when they are moving towards you or away. Blue shift - short wavelengths; object moving towards you. Red shift- long wave paths; moving away from you. Edward hubble saw that light from all galaxies were red shifted and moving away. These collapse from force of gravity to form stars. Nuclear fusion- hydrogen and helium in stars combined to form heavier elements from beryllium through iron. Planets that were big and hot enough, their interior melted and dense material went to the center and less dense material formed the exterior.
