Document Summary

Motivation need and desire that energizes and directs behavior. Incentives environmental stimuli that attract or repel us; create arousal. If need is not met, a drive (aroused, motivated state) is created (hunger/thirst) Drive pushes us to reduce the need (eat/drink) The united states has the highest obesity/overweight percentage population in the world. Yerkes-dodson law: moderate arousal equals optimal performance. Optimal arousal is alert, not trembling nervousness. Safety needs (feel world is organized and predictable) Belonging and love needs (love and be loved) Self-transcendence needs (meaning beyond self) (end of life) Larger plates and utensils equal a larger serving size. The more you socialize online, the worse your grades become. Emotion is bodily arousal, expressive behaviors, conscious experience. We feel sad because we cry; angry because we hit. Cannon-bard theory: arousal and emotion happen at once. Schachter-singer two factor theory: arousal + label=emotion. Emotion requires experience (appraisal) and physical arousal. Cognition (appraisal) helps us interpret emotion, channel it (not always present).
