Document Summary

Infs also activate macrophages and nk cells. Complement proteins bind to antibody pathogen complexes complement fixation. Complement proteins bind to polysaccharide molecules on pathogens. Leukocytes and macrophages exposed to pathogens secrete pyrogens. Pyrogens released into the bloodstream cause hypothalamus to raise body temp. A raised body temp causes a decrease in the availability of iron and zinc which are required by bacteria to reproduce. Also increased metabolic activity which puts processes into action a lot faster. Elevated body temp can denature bacterial enzymes. Antigen: anything that activates/promotes the immune system. Immunogenicity stimulates the immune system (b and t cells) and can cause the production of antibodies. Reactivity something on an antigen that gives it the ability to interact with a lymphocyte or antigen. Nonimmunogenic to ourselves but immunogenic to someone else. Pathogen specific each immune system cell has markers for a specific pathogen. Not immediately active time delay from wen it 1st encounters the pathogen.
