Document Summary

Blastocyst- a fluid filled hollow ball of cells. Blastocoel- the hollow cavity within the blastocyst. Blastocyst after zygote, amniotic cavity after inner cell mass. Gametogenesis: primary/secondary oocyte, fertilized secondary oocyte before meiosis ii is completed. Vernix caseosa, colostrum, the green stuff, wharton"s jelly. Vernix caseosa- (cheesy), covers the fetus"s skin and protects it from amniotic fluid. Colostrum- (foremilk)- not much lactose or fat, high concentration of vitamins, minerals, and protein (including antibodies) Wharton"s jelly- found in the umbilical cord, a type of connective tissue. Why it may be difficult to become fertilized b/c of male or female. Male: premature capacitation (letting out of acrosomal enzymes from sperm) Insufficient number of sperm produced: abnormal sperm shape, nonfunctional flagella, ovaries alternate ovulation so of sperm may go to wrong ovary, sperm may penetrate oviduct mucosa and get stuck/eventually die. Colostrum first- does not contain much lactose or fat, high concentration of minerals, proteins and vitamins then true milk.
