Document Summary

Define the term microbe and differentiate between prokaryotic, eukaryotic and acellular microbes - microbe is a term used to describe a very small organism not able to be seen with the naked eye. Usually made up of one or more cells and can be divided into each of the 3 domains. Prokaryotes are single celled organisms with no membrane bound nucleus or organelles. A eukaryotes is a multicellular organism with membrane bound organelles and has many higher functions. Acellular microbes, or microbes with no cells, are non-living microbes such as viruses, viroids and prions. Draw a simple phylogenetic tree that depicts the relationships between archaea, bacteria and eukarya. Archaea, eukarya and bacteria are the 3 domains of life. The only similarity they have is that they are each composed of living organisms. Archaea and bacteria are prokaryotic while eukarya is strictly eukaryotes.
