JL MC 344 Lecture Notes - Lecture 1: Sorority Life, Fraternities And Sororities
Document Summary
I am in my first day of college class. There is an engaging conversation going on around me. Other students are pitching their ideas, giving opinions and answering questions. I have something to say, yet i stay completely silent. I know the answer and have valuable input, but am too nervous to raise my hand in fear of what others might think. To someone who has never had a personal experience or involvement with sorority life, it is hard to explain the impact it can have on an individual. For some, being a member of a sorority can be intimidating when the stereotypes and negative opinions of others are stacked against them. For me, gaining membership into a sorority meant opening the door to a long list of opportunities. Some of those include leadership, community service, professional development and most importantly personal growth. Mental health is something i have always struggled with.
