Hair follicles: tubelike depression in the skin in which a hair develops. Sweat glands: sudoriferous glands are widespread in the skin. Dermis: the thick layer of the skin beneath the epidermis. Subcutaneous layer: loose connective tissue layer that is mostly fat and is beneath the skin. Dura mater: tough outer layer of the meninges.
