Document Summary

List the four characteristics that all muscles have and explain them. Elastic: they can return to original length after being shortened/stretched. Relaxes completely between contractions prevents fatigue. A source of attachment for muscles to allow body movement. Certain bones produce blood cells in the red marrow. Skeletal muscles are voluntary muscles responsible for. Pushes against veins & lymphatic vessels to move blood & lymph along. Movement is produced when one muscle contracts and the other relaxes. Muscles that contract at the same time to cause a certain movement i. e. biceps brachii & brachialis. Band of connection tissue that attaches the bone. Ends attached to the bone that remains relatively stationary during movement. The end attached to the bone that moves. Caused from repeated motions, overuse, misuse, or age. Healing is slow due to poor blood supple. Caused by overstretching that damages the muscle or tendon. Treatment includes ice to reduce swelling & keeping muscle stretched.
