BIO E121 Lecture Notes - Lecture 22: Tibialis Anterior Muscle, Myosin Head, Motor Neuron
Document Summary
Tibialis anterior (shin) pairs with calf muscle. Tendinitis: inflammation of tendon; caused by repeated motion. Slow healing process because poor blood supply. Treatment includes ice to reduce swelling & keeping muscle stretched. Formed when individual muscle fibers group in large bundles, each wrapped in connective tissue sheath. Each fascicle is surrounded by its own connective tissue sheath. Each connective tissue sheath of fascicles merge at ends of muscles to form tendons & attaches muscle to bone. Each myofibrils is surrounded by sarcoplasmic reticulum. Sarcolemma: muscle fiber"s plasma membrane; surrounds muscle cell. Transverse tubules: from surface and travels deep within muscle fiber. Dense proteins that separates one sarcomere from another. M line: contains proteins to hold thick filaments together. A band: entire length of thick filaments & region of thin filaments that overlap. Junction between the tip of a motor & skeletal muscle cell. Muscle contraction; occurs at the molecular level; 8 steps.
