Document Summary

Sources of bias: where does the press get their information, knowledge of inadmissible evidence can bias the outcome, more publicity=more likely the defendant is guilt. Ways to decrease biasing effects in pretrial publicity. Postpone the trial until a later date (continuance) continuance can dampen the knowledge of the evidence but cannot dampen the emotional content. Expanding voir dire questioning: ask jurors if they have any bias coming into the trial. Importing jurors from another county or changing the venue of the trial. Explicitly instructing the jurors to ignore the prior evidence. What"s the best solution: it"s a change of venue that offers the best chance of a fair trial. Health is best defined as a state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being. Health as a continuum: promoting and maintaining health, preventing and treating illness, identifying the causes and correlates of health and illness and other dysfunctions, improving the health care system and the formation of health policy.
