Conformity: refers to a change in behavior due to the real or imagined influence of other people; the tendency to become more consistent with group standards. Two kinds of social influence: informational and normative social influence. Refers to the influence of other people that leads us to conform because we see them as a source of information to guide our behavior. Normative social influence: refers to the influence of other people that leads us to conform in order to be liked and accepted by them. 76% conformed at least once, and 37% of the time they gave the wrong answer. It"s difficult because you can be the outsider of the group, you can be ignored, rejected. Schacter study: voted off a guy who disagreed with everyone. Idiosyncrasy credits conforming to nsi most of the time earns you the right to deviate occasionally without serious consequences.
