Learning: a relatively enduring change in knowledge or behavior, resulting from experience. Associative learning: a basic form of learning to associate one event with another. B. f. skinner: leading researcher in this idea. Legacy of skinner: argued behaviors were shaped by external influences and not inner thoughts and feelings. Critics argued skinner dehumanized people by neglecting their free will. Reinforcement: reinforcers increase the frequency of the response they follow. Positive reinforcer: a pleasant event that follows an operant response and increases the likelihood that the response will occur. A positive reinforce is presented after the target response has been made. Negative reinforcer: strengthens a given response by removing an aversive stimuli. A negative reinforce is withdrawn or taken away after the target response had been made. Punishment: any stimulus that decreases the likelihood of a prior response. A form of learning in which one stimulus is paired with another so that the organism learns the relationship.
