Document Summary

Film adaptation from book to film, and vice versa. Films with reigning mercantilism, art in exile from the values of audience. Vs. films that oppose that idea, films that gain legitimacy with more respectable art. Marvel movies are adaptations, which then become a network which can be tapped into: you pay money to go see the movie, then what happens, you become hooked, and you want to see the next movie. You start buying other media that they produce. You become loyal to the movies: disney owns marvel. What are the criteria: play by shakespeare, symphony by beethoven, song by duke ellington, movie by charlie chaplin, movie based on war and peace, novel by chandler. Prestige/who has access to these things (money) Ambition of the form: there is a high culture and a low culture category, a sort of binary, movies are the low culture category. Movies are merely a derivative version of the book.
