Purpose and objective: after completion of this instruction, the learner will be able to, demonstrate awareness of egocentric thinking and bias within quantitative and qualitative research, describe the principle of clinical equipoise within research design. Research methods: quantitative research: testing and verification, qualitative research: understand meanings and experiences, mixed methods: mixture of both types of designs that test variables while also providing deeper meaning to the study. Hypothesis generation: cue acquisition -> cue interpretation -> pattern recognition -> develop hypothesis. Appreciate the limitations of our own point of view. Methods to reduce bias in research: quantitative research. Internal validity threats- procedures, treatments, or experiences of the participants that could threaten the researcher"s ability to draw correct interference from the data. Clinical equipoise: a state of genuine uncertainty as to the advantages or disadvantages of each therapeutic aim in a clinical trial.
