Purpose and objective: after completion of this instruction, the learner will be able to: Historical background: promote the need for rigorous research as a basis for treatment, cochrane collaboration (systematic reviews) Across cases or a single case: asking the questions add to your appraisal of the study to determine if your collection of data will support your treatment. Be a critical consumer: research topic, single case study, rct, meta analysis, small sample size, blinded study. Levels of evidence: table 6-2, 6-3 describes the evolution of levels of evidence, the higher the level (level 1) more confidence the reader has of the results. Journal clubs: team appraisal, clinicians have the responsibility to appraise literature to use the best evidence to support. Individual appraisal evaluation tools and treatment strategies: clinicians should understand the risk of bias when appraising the literature.
