Document Summary

Module 4 notes - learning styles and student characteristics. The goal of planning is to achieve some form of interactive teaching-learning exchange. This exchange should be responsive to the needs, interests, and characteristics of students. An ideal individualized learning experience is one which incorporates many different learning and teaching strategies. Development of individualized learning requires extensive diagnostic procedures that lead to the prescription of the administration of a multitude of different teaching and learning activities. Individualized instruction is seldom obtainable, especially in the health professions, because of the extensive diagnostic and prescriptive measures needed. In health professions education, instructors need to combine various learning and teaching strategies to help students obtain minimal competence in their health discipline. For example, lectures are used to present concepts and principles of an area of study. If cd roms or computer-assisted instruction is available, these strategies may be used to either replace or supplement the lecture.
