HSC 3243 Lecture Notes - Lecture 7: Educational Technology, Programmed Learning, Ethical Subjectivism
Document Summary
Personalized instruction is the one-to-one instruction that takes place between a teacher and student, so individual needs and interests of each student are recognized and accommodated. Strategies of personalized instruction can be viewed as a continuum. On one end are learning packages and programmed instruction, in the middle is contract learning, and at the other end is tutoring (usually for remedial purposes). The degree of teacher involvement and personalization increases across the continuum. Learning packages are a collection of learning materials contained in a package to help the student learn at their own pace. It can contain many different types of teaching strategies to accommodate the different learning styles of students. For example, the package may contain tapes of lectures, reading assignments, simulation games, programmed instruction, and computer assisted instruction (cai). Packages may involve the use of supplemental equipment learners may not be prepared to use or cope with when machines break.
