Id- associated with instinct: ego- mediates between the unrealistic id and the external real world, decision making component of personality, superego- part of the mind that incorporates the values and moral of society and guides the ego. An angry person that may use their aggression by playing sports or boxing. Psychoanalytic psychotherapy- how we get the unconscious. (psychoanalysis freud"s work: free association- patient does most of the talking during therapy session, dream interpretation (parapraxis- error in speech or memory), transference- feelings toward the therapist. (universal phenomenon) o. Interpretation- the conscious and unconscious becomes clearer: working through- in complete process of therapy. Inferiority complex- persistent feeling of being inferior to others. Ego psychologists: some individuals have different cognitive styles, neurocognitive tests- helps determine a person"s personality, levelers- not into detail, just sees the whole picture, sharpeners- find categories and focuses on detail. o. Intuitive- takes a look at something and goes with an answer without explaining it.
