• First part of the process is creating a health and wellness vision
o What the future could look like based on your wants or needs
o What is possible for me in the future?
• Setting a goal around what you need to do to take steps towards that vision
• Goal types
o Outcome goals
▪ Focused on the end result
▪ Achieved by strategies or tasks
▪ You might not have control over all the variables needed to get to that
goal
▪ You want to have smaller performance related steps to reaching that
outcome goal
▪ Ex) I want to lose 20 pounds
o Performance goals
▪ Focused on long term behavior change
▪ Something more performance related is more achievable
▪ You have more control over the outcome of the goal
• You have a set plan to follow every day
▪ Ex) I want to eat a more daily balanced diet (getting the right amount of
fruits and vegetables) and exercise 3 times a week
• Goal setting principles

overwhelming that they cannot be accomplished
