Document Summary

Magnetic elds are produced by both permanent magnets and current carrying wires. Electricity and magnetism are di erent aspects of a single force; electromagnetic force. Magnetic eld exert force on moving charges. Current could be induced by varying magnetic elds. Consumption of energy is measured in kilowatt-hours. Dc (direct current): positive and negative terminals of a battery are always positive and negative. Current ows in the same direction b/w the two terminals. Ac (alternating current): power form a plant is ac. The direction of the current reverses or alternates. Fundamental particles (dipoles) - electrons, protons, neutrons. Induced magnetic eld opposes the original eld change (lenz"s law) A changing magnetic eld produces a changing electric eld (which, in turn, produces a changing current) which produces a magnetic eld. A device that increases or decreases the voltage of alternating current. Operates on the principle that current in one coil induces a current in another coil.
