Document Summary

Importance of affect- mood plays a very important role: reinforcement-affect model- we like to associate with people that make us feel good. We dislike to associate people associated with negative feelings: direct effect: emotional association based on a direct cause (person does something to make you feel good or bad). It was partly due to the fact that it is their favorite restaurant: contextual factors, propinquity effect (proximity): tendency to form relations based on frequent interactions. We tend to develop an attraction to people we see frequently: the reason long distance relationships suck, functional distance- interaction with someone in a familiar and shared location. Ex: having the same class with someone, working out at the same time, etc: repeated exposure effect: the more exposure we have to a new stimuli, the more we tend to like it. When people desperately want to belief there is a connection there: usually more influential than actual similarity especially in the short term.
