Document Summary

Bio 121 week 7 lecture 13. Atp is hydrolyzed to adp plus a solitary phosphate group, which powers cellular work. For continued cellular work, atp must be restored. Adp plus a solitary phosphate group are joined to form atp during cellular respiration. The use of energy released during exergonic reactions to drive endergonic reactions. Energy from cellular respiration (exergonic) is used to form atp into adp and a phosphate group (endergonic) Hydrolysis od atp to adp and a phosphate group (exergonic) is used to po(cid:449)er the (cid:272)ell"s other endergonic reactions. Enzymes are proteins that catalyze (speed up) chemical reactions within cells. Very few reactants would be converted to products without enzymes. Anabolism refers to chemical reactions that build smaller molecules into larger molecules. The larger the product molecules are more ordered and therefore have more. Catabolism refers to chemical reactions that break down larger molecules into smaller potential energy than the smaller reactant molecules molecules.
