Derealization experiences of unreality of surroundings. Depersonalization experiences of detachment from one"s mental processes or body as though one is in a dream. Symptoms not explained by other issues, comorbid with other disorder. Eg. normal dissociation: driving to school while thinking about something else, remember nothing about the trip. A defense mechanism to avoid painful circumstances. Eg. a 3 yrs kid experiencing life-threatening events, couldn"t handle, naturally shut down, memory became dissociated and repressed. Partial or total inability to recall important information that is not due to a medical condition. Often is the result of stress, trauma, or extremely distressing situations such as combat, marital problems, or physical abuse. Eg. dissociate and don"t remember about car accident, usually not permanent. Person appears normal but is amnesic about their identity. Person wanders from state to state and sometimes establishes a new identity. Don"t know what triggered the whole episode, rare.
