Dsm v codes: conditions or sigini cant factors that are not disorders per se but can have a strong in uence on treatment. A person might be eligible for insurance coverage for treatment even if they did not have a diagnosable disorder, but had a signi cant impairment due to a v code condition being present. Planning for dsm-5 began in 1999 with apa and nimh. Major objective was to initiate a renewed focus on the validity of diagnosis. Eliminate disparities between the dsm and who"s icd. Revisions to address gaps in the diagnostic and classi cation system and update the system based on research developments, including new developments in the neuroscience eld. Exist to highlight that people can experience signi cant distress despite not meeting full criteria for a disorder. Supplement the categorical approach with a greater number of dimensional ratings.
