Three basic concepts that help determine the value of assessment: reliability, validity, and standardization. Reliability- degree to which a measurement is consistent. Validity- whether something measures what it is designed to measure. Standardization- process by which a certain set of standards is determined for a technique to make its use consistent across different measurements. Mental status exam- organizes information obtained during an interview with five categories: appearance and behavior, thought processes, mood and affect, intellectual functioning, sensorium (general awareness of our surroundings) Ideas of reference- schizophrenia symptom; where you think people are talking about you. Behavioral assessment- uses direct observation to assess an individual"s thoughts and behavior.
