Document Summary
Clinical assessment- systematic evaluation and measurement (psychological, biological, social) Diagnosis: degree of fit between symptoms and diagnostic criteria. Purpose: to understand the individual, to predict behavior, to plan treatment, and to evaluate treatment outcome. Funnel analogy: broad, multidimensional start; narrow to specific problems. The classification of disorders by symptoms and signs. Advances the search for causes and treatments. Nomenclature- names or labels in a nosological system. Physical symptoms, psychological symptoms, mood, and behavior. Test-retest (similarity of scores across repeated test administrations or observations) Concurrent- association between two measures administered at the same point in time. Predictive- ability of the measure to predict another variable measured at some future point in time. A construct is an abstract concept or inferred attribute. Involves correlating multiple indirect measures of the attribute. Important for validating our theoretical understanding of psychopathology. Structured: all interviews ask the same questions in a predetermined order.
