GEOG 001 Lecture Notes - Lecture 13: Germination, Biome, Coastal Pacific
Document Summary
A biome is a major regional complex of similar communities recognized primarily from its dominant plant vegetation. I. e forests, deserts, ect an ecoregion is defined by the world wildlife fund as a large area of land or water that contains a geographically distinct assemblage of natural communities. Climatographs are climate diagrams that outline a biomes climate patterns, ultimately making it the type of biome it is. The world is divided into roughly 10 terrestrial biomes: tundra dry biome, nearly as dry as desert- but located at very high latitudes across northern parts of the world like northern canada and russia. Little daylight, very cold winters, soil remains frozen (called permafrost). Tundra could occur at the tops of mountains around the world too: boreal forest northern coniferous forest, also called taiga. Consists of pine tree forest: temperate deciduous forest dominates landscape around southern and central great lakes.
