Television is a good place to recycle old movies. Made for tv movies: made explicitly for television by studios that are never seen in theatres. Kids like to watch the same movie again and again: biggest revenue stream, started putting extra things in dvd, director commentary, deleted scenes, extended endings, alternate. Sales of dvds have been declining endings: rentals have been going up through netflix & redbox. Didn"t sell that many videos but profit margin was very big; very cheap to reproduce the movie sell through market. Sell each copy for considerably less as well. Sold videos aimed at young children: mulan 2, american pie entire list of sequels and spin-offs, used for remakes.
