Transitional: the cells in transitional epithelial vary in shape, depending on whether the tissue is stretched or relaxed. A characteristic feature of transitional epithelium is the presence of domed shaped surface cells: in the urinary bladder, epithelial cells are able to change shape as urine accumulates in the bladder. Stratified cuboidal: pseudostratified epithelium, the short cilia, or hair-like projections, on the surface of these cells help in moving mucous. This type of epithelium can be found throughout most of the respiratory tract, a system where mucous must be transported. Connective tissue is the most widespread and abundant type of tissue in the human body. It is the most diverse of the four types of tissue with a wide variety of functions. It rages in consistency from the gel-like softness of areolar connective tissue to the hardness of bone. Cells of connective tissue: cells, fibres, intercellular substance.
