Adolescents increasingly seek autonomy (independence) from parents, varies by culture and gender. Generation gap: deep divide between parents and children. Largely a myth, mostly the same as parent. Reference groups: who we compare ourselves to. Often by gender, people in our region, age groups. Through this we find our norms (standards of behavior) Cliques: groups of 2-12 people who have frequent social interaction. Crowds: larger groups sharing particular characteristics but not frequent social interaction.
