Document Summary

Gene a selection of dna that acts as instructions to make molecules called proteins. Chromosomes- gene carrying structure in a cell consisting of a long molecule of dna. Locus(loci)- a genes physical position on a chromosome. A change in allele frequencies in a population overtime: a change in heritable trait in a population across generations. Evolution has changed over time: early 1800s, organism survived through acquired traits. Natural selection (mid 1800s: charles darwin and alfred wallace, central hypothesis. Traits vary among individuals in a population. Individuals with certain traits leave more offspring than others do. Descent with modification: species change overtime, species are related by common ancestry. Individuals vary: traits are inherited, there is a struggle for existence, some variations are more adapted or more fit than others a. i. (survive longer and produce more offspring) Individuals better suited to (more adapted to) their environment (because of inherited traits ) Populations will become better adapted to their environment.
