PSY 201 Lecture Notes - Lecture 11: Intelligence Quotient, Stereotype Threat, Twin
Document Summary
The iq test was devised to predict school success, and it does this well. But self discipline predicts grades in school even better than iq scores do. Individuals with high iq are more likely to hold high paying, high prestige positions within medicine, law, and engineering. These tests do not directly measure a child"s potential for future learning, but the usual assumption is that children who have learned more in the past will probably learn more in the future. Dynamic testing: measures a child"s learning potential by having the child learn something new in the presence of the examiner and with the examiner"s help. Learning potential can be estimated by the amount of material the child learns during interaction with the examiner, and from the amount of help the child needs to learn the new material. Heredity and experience both have an influence on iq scores.
