Process goals: focus on action, thought or feeling in the effort to perform well. When they were expecting to win the race and not thinking about rowing, that was a bad coping event. When you are in an olympic race, your goal is to win. Hitting a specific speed time is a performance goal. Self-concordant goals do not necessarily feel good nor are they necessarily self- gratifying. Key is: not whether the goal is pleasurable but rather whether the person feels ownership as they pursue the goal. Pursue goals that are (freely chose and meaningful: express evolving interests and personal values.
