CAS PS 371 Lecture Notes - Lecture 12: Personality Disorder, Dsm-5, Mental Disorder
Document Summary
You should describe an interview with the person, make up an interview. We are most likely to recognize personality disorders ourselves or our family. Personality: enduring (stable) and pervasive predispositions of an individual. We consider it to be a more or less permanent part of an individual, as opposed to having an onset. Personality disorders, stating with dsm3 (1980), have their own axis. Exam question: when was axis 2 removed: in 2013, when dsm5 was published, they eliminated the multiple axis. Personality disorders still have their own chapter in the dsm5. There are 10 personality disorders in this chapter and in the run up to dsm5, the most drastic from dsm4 was in the personality disorders section. A very radically different section on personality disorders was developed. This incorporated a much more dimensional approach (not categorical). This is the only section of the dsm that is identical in both dsm4 and dsm5.
