Personality individual differences in characteristic patterns of thinking, feeling and behaving. Personality disorder an enduring pattern of inner experience and behaviour that deviates markedly from the e(cid:454)pe(cid:272)tatio(cid:374)s of the i(cid:374)di(cid:448)idual(cid:859)s (cid:272)ulture: trait-based, rather than state-based as in other mental disorders, culture defined by age, gender, ethnicity etc. Tenuous stability under stress: marked instability in mood, thinking and behaviour during difficult periods. Longitudinal studies have demonstrated that these three core features are present in the pds as defined in the dsm. Cultural background need to take context into account. Children/adolescents diagnosing pds in younger people is problematic. Confusing labels with explanations associated stigma. Semi-structured interview process: trained clinicians needed to make accurate assessments. Overshadowing: presentation of another mental health problem, not focusing on the pd element of other disorders, may impede treatment progression if not recognised, dsm5 personality disorders. Unstable and: most likely borderline pd intense inappropriate and attempts to abandonment.
