Document Summary

Fluid within a cell is called intracellular fluid. Fluid that surrounds a cell is called extracellular fluid. Fluid found within in tissues is called interstitial fluid. Both fluids are found outside and can be used interchangeably. More common to use interstitial when viewing many tissues. We talk about blood in terms of the whole tissue or its parts. Erythrocytes make up 45% of whole blood. Buffy coat- leukocytes and platelets (less than one percent of whole blood) Plasma with the cells and serum when purified. Erthro make up 99% of the formed elements. Percentage of the erthy in while blood is hematocrit. Males have higher oxygen demand, more muscles, more body mass. Altitude affects hematocrit- higher elevation= bigger percentage rbcs. Can lead to heart attack and clots. Erythrocytes- the light shines through the center of them. Blood cells don t have nucleus and are therefore disposable. Take on and off a lot of carbon dioxide and oxygen.
