Biodiversity- makes up all the life on earth ( number of species, genera, etc) There are many groups (diversification- living organisms on earth) Systematics-the study of living organisms on earth and their relationships. Classification-how we know where the organisms belong (in their hierarchical groups) Phylogeny- the evolutionary development/history of a species or a group of organisms. Taxonomy(taxon, taxa)- the naming of groups of organisms ; how organisms are classified. A group of organisms that come from a single common ancestor and contains all descendants. *to represent a clade, it has to be a clean chop that includes everything within it. Monophyletic- a lineage with a single common ancestor (mono means- one) Holophyletic- a lineage including all descendants of a single common ancestor. Paraphyletic- a lineage including some but not all descendants of a single common ancestor (para means- on the side of)
