While zeus was typically regarded as the chief deity in most of greece"s polises, many cities worshipped one particular god/goddess. While athens had temples for multiple gods, athena was regarded as the protecting goddess of the city. The oracle of delphi was known to give oracles that could be interpreted in multiple ways, so the prophecy is always correct. The panhellenic games were held once a year and many individual cities also hosted games.
