Document Summary
With a stronger global presence, custom molds inc. was engaged in two distinct processes in its operations, which were for fabricating molds and producing plastic parts. These two processes were linked even though they were different. Fabricating molds was considered a crafts-man oriented process. When the order was received, a design engineer and a master mechanic reviewed the design and schedules the mold for fabrication. Fabricating a mold took two to four weeks and nine weeks for delivery to customers. In the case of producing plastic parts, the parts were taken to the assembly after the cut-and-trim operation completed. The parts took three weeks to be delivered to customers. According to tom and mason miller, on-time delivery, low cost and consistency were considered competitive priorities of the parts manufacturing process and fabrication process. However, in early 2015, things started to change. The founders of the company started to realize that the electronics industry was changing.
