SOSC 2340 Lecture Notes - Lecture 1: Maternal Bond, Surrogacy, Sperm Donation
Document Summary
Using a market mechanism to allocate grades for assignments through the process of bidding is wrong and unjust. The purpose of school is to provide students with knowledge. Assignments and exams are some of the methods used to teach students how to apply that knowledge. Professionals, such as doctors, engineers, and politicians, rely on the requisite education they receive in school to perform their jobs effectively. If we allow students to bid for higher grades, we would be doing the students and society a profound injustice. The graduates of such institutes would be unprepared for the real world, as they would not be equipped with the tools to succeed in their profession. Their degree would be a worthless piece of paper with no real value. Meanwhile, students who want to actually learn and obtain a good education would be denied their right to do so, if they are not of high economic status.
