Perception & Attention o What does it mean to
say the perceived world is “constructed”?
When we perceive our surroundings, it appears like we
are directly picking up this information from the world.
However, this perceived world is “constructed” by your
brain
• For example: The image on your retina is 2-dimensional,
yet you perceive 3-dimensions.
o What types of specialized mechanisms (feature
detectors, etc.) do we have for perceiving the
world?
