Document Summary
Control of variables therefore we can reach cause-effect conclusions. Demand characteristics what you think the researcher wants you to do - Allows for use of complex measurement: pros and cons of correlational research; Low external validity- - does not translate to the outcomes real world. Experiment effects- mere presence of the experimenter produce different affects. Ethical limitations- how much we allow researchers to lie to participants: only a relationship between variables, spurious correlation - knowledge on a topic less likely to be persuaded, limited reliability and validity- gap between intent and actual behaviour. May allow for large number of participants to be studies. Can look at large number of variables than experiments therefore more complex relationships among variables. Third variable problem- relationship between 2 variables- sometimes it is caused by the 3rd variable. Often relies on self-report behaviour, which has limited reliability and validity - gap between intent and actual behaviour.
