First sample was biased b/c rst sample was healthier and younger. 2nd group had random assignment w/ participants and got correct result. What you"re asking must be related to what you want to know. Ex. handout second page a simple lesson in item validity . Asked do you fear your ex partner? problem: no de nition of fear. Men assumed: nding own place, not seeing kids. Experiment: can say smoking tar causes cancer in rats but not humans b/c no experiment done (have to use babies). Double blind study: neither experimenter or participant know options.
