Research research shows a cause or a relationship. Internal - researching what you planned to. Ex. handout - research and post-menstrual hormones use: when good research goes bad. Biased sample of women in 1st study-- particular group of women were healthier. Used random assignment to get rid of bias in 2nd study. Ex. in handout - a simple lesson in item validity. Experimenter expectations -- make sure to not give the subject an idea of what you want them to do. Can avoid giving the subject a hint of what you want by using a double-blind test -- experimenter and subject are unaware the research participants. Who they are: example: nausea medication and pregnant women -- tested on men. Why: why do participants agree to be a part of a study. Might be able to get some sort of experimental healthcare that they wouldn"t be able to get otherwise interest interpretation.
