06/04/14- pain- how the pain model has changed so much from the biomedical model to a model which has less anxiety. The brain is the one which is creating the pain, when your brain decides that there is really a problem. There are two types of pain: smack your against the walk- acute pain, something that has just happened. Chronic pain more of a suffering, different brain areas are involved in this. More and more important as pain becomes long term. Placebo effect:- placebo- some sort of inner treatment- no active ingredient: placebo treatment, produces effects due to intent. Inactive substance or condition that has the appearance of an active: nocebo. Placebos can cause adverse effects: when you receive a positive result, when you get negative results- is a nocebo- adverse side effects, provider characteristics- good relationship with the doctor, going to have stronger placebo effect.
