Ironic mental process: when you told not to do something or thinking about something you may ironically end up thinking about it by your brain trying not to. Two specific strategies are distraction and refraining( remind yourself to do something else) Why do we study social psych: our lives are social, our basic goals are safety, survival and gene promotion. Social psychologists know relationships effect all of these. Relationships can help happiness, cope better, married couples healthier, social pain. Social relationship & behaviour: ppl readily form relationship, celebrate social bonds, mourn social loss, we spend alot of $ to attract others. Social psychology: the scientific study of the causes and consequences of ppl though feeling and action regarding themselves as other ppl. Output: causes and consequences of people thoughts, feelings and behaviours(or abc)
