The psychological need: a mechanism for regulating behaviour to acquire the tangible or intangible resources necessary for survival and well-being. ( represents biological need) The motive to belong is inherent to human nature. When the need to belong is not met, mental and physical health decline(weak sick, hallucinating. From natural selection: there was a need to belong and form relationships, from early ancestors the ones that were able to care socialize were able to raise children to maturity and also reproduce. The most remarkable thing about human being is because we cooperate with one another without being related. How do we choose who to form relationships with: Propinquity effect: increased likelihood of forming relationships with people who are physically close by. Functional distance: how often two people"s paths cross. Proximity: exposes us more to another person, we like things that are familiar to us, more interactions we have with people close by the more they like us,
