Death instincts: instincts towards aggression and destruction, towards of others and ourselves. We go through life trying to control them. Id (the little kid): contains the instincts, only structure present at birth. Irrational and amoral (no morals), when tension builds it seeks self-indulgence. Is in direct contact with reality and helps the id become satisfied in socially acceptable ways. Strives for delay in gratification and it is based on the reality principle. Superego (strict dad): develops around 4 years old. Preconscious- mental events can become conscious through attention. Unconscious- mental events more or less unavailable to consciousness. Erogenous zones: zones that need pleasure producing stimulation to reduce tension: oral stage (birth- 15months): e. z mouth, anal stage (18 months): e. z anus.
