Mental states are born of biological states in the brain everything has a biological background. Nominal fallacy is the error of believing that a label has explanatory meaning. Ex. saying you have social anxiety isn"t the reason for why a person has trouble socializing. Freud: influence of unconscious needs, wishes, and conflicts. We can"t be conscious or aware of everything. There is active mental processing even when you"re asleep for example, we don"t fall out of bed when asleep and we hear the cry of a baby but not the thunderstorm. When performing an action our mind wanders 20-40% of the time. When you have past thoughts which are unrelated to what you currently have going on. Zoning out: ignoring or no longer listening without realizing you"ve done so.
